Mastellar I was the first major large-scale photovoltaic system undertaken by us, and since completion it has been generating 840KWh of clean, renewable energy for the local community. It was the first project in which our now business model was implemented, which involves locating the PV system or ‘solar farm’ close to the existing grid infrastructure which permits us to sell our energy to the regional energy utilities without wastage of energy and with minimal infrastructure investment.
The farm is located in rural, Greece and came into action in the summer of 2011. The total investment for this project was $3.4 million and it stimulated the local economy by $1.4 million creating 37 project jobs, and 5 permanent management and maintenance jobs. The energy created by the project is sufficient to power the nearest village 2 times over.
